Kateřina Rudčenková is the author of seven plays: Frau in Blau (2004), Niekur (2006, in printed form 2007, radio version 2007), A Time of Cherry Smoke (2007, radio version 2009), Accident – Coma – Timeless (2008), Oil Lamp (2009), Calmed (2009), and The Chase (2015). The plays have been staged in the Ungelt Theatre, Drama Studio Ústí nad Labem or LETÍ Theatre; they were part of the Immigrants’ Theatre Project in New York (2008, A Time of Cherry Smoke) or Ein Stück: Tschechien, the festival of contemporary Czech drama (“dramatic poem” Niekur written in several languages, 2016, and A Time of Cherry Smoke one year later). Selected parts of Time of Cherry Smoke were presented at a stage reading event at Fais un saut à Prague, the first edition of the festival of Czech theatre in France; the play is also in the electronic anthology of Czech plays Game’s Not Over (2011).
Apart from dramatic works, Kateřina Rudčenková has published the following collections of poems Ludwig, You Don’t Need to Visit Me (in German as well), Ash and Delight, Walking in the Dunes and the book of short stories Nights, Nights, her texts have appeared in the collections of short stories I Don’t Love You Anymore and A Date with Erotica. Author’s poems have been regularly published in respected Czech and foreign journals, they have been translated into twenty languages (English, French, Chinese, Polish, Spanish, German). She appears in many foreign anthologies (Great Britain, Bulgaria, France, Poland, Austria, Slovakia, Slovenia) and is a frequent guest at international literary events all around the world. Rudčenková’s plays have been translated into German, English and Slovenian.
Kateřina Rudčenková graduated from the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory (writing lyrics and a script, 1999) and the Faculty of Economics and Management at Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague (2001).
Kateřina Rudčenková ended up second in the Alfréd Radok Award (2006, Niekur), the play A Time of Cherry Smoke was in the final round of the competition in 2007; play Niekur also received the Audience Award at the festival of contemporary Czech drama Ein Stück: Tschechien 2016 in Berlin. The author has also received several literary prizes for poetry (2003, Hubert-Burda-Preis, Germany; 2014, Magnesia Litera and others). She received the scholarship in Krems, Austria (2001), Wiepersdorf, Germany (2004) and Nuremberg (2002), London (2006) or Ventspils, Latvia (2008, 2009).
