Puppeteers from the leading Czech theatres presented their performances in Brussels, the capital city of the EU. “Czech Puppet Week” took place from 18 to 23 October as part of the accompanying program of the Czech EU Presidency, which ended on 3 January 2023. The presented shows were originally staged in the Alfa Theatre, Naïve Theatre Liberec, and Spejbl and Hurvínek Theatre.

Most performances were hosted at the Peruchet Royal Theatre. The Czech Puppet Week also offered the puppet exhibition in the Pilsen House, which is located near the headquarters of EU institutions. The exhibition presented dozens of Czech puppets by leading puppeteers and artists. Two floors of the house provided space for marionettes from the plays of the Alfa Theatre Pilsen and big wooden puppets from the performance about Jan Žižka.

The accompanying program of the Czech EU Presidency also included two exhibitions. The Prague house presented contemporary Czech young artists Anna Hulačová, Jiří Thýn, Jakub Choma, Daniel Vlček a Miroslava Večeřová & Duna. The botanical garden was the venue where artist Rudolf Samohejl prepared the exhibition about Czech orchid collector Benedikt Roezl, who lived in the 19th century.
